Allison Wilbanks PA-C has been a dermatology PA for about 10 years — it was her very first job out of PA school, and she says she has loved "just about every minute of it." She never planned to go into derm; she was headed for family medicine until mentors urged her to do a derm elective because she'd see so much of it in family practice. Expecting "the most boring month of my life" seeing acne, she walked into the clinic, loved it, connected with the physician, and was offered a job by the end of the rotation.
At the Elevate Austin Conference, a four-hour drive from her practice in Tyler, Texas, she says the pediatric lectures have been her favorite. As someone who loves kids but admits pediatric derm makes her nervous, she's always looking for opportunities to learn more and feel more confident in that area.
